Even though we are closed to the public until July 4th, Wintergreen has been buzzing with gardening, preserving, and preparing for the Pan Am Games. Asparagus season is upon us. We are preserving and pickling "nippy tips" which are spicy asparagus tips for use in drinks, salads, or as treats. Rhubarb is also in season, so Diane has been making rhubarb and strawberry rhubarb pies, and Rhubarb BBQ sauce. Everything to it's season. We have been BBQing meat for the Pan Am Games. 3x 14 hour cooking sessions, slow and low, mmmmmm good. Mosquito season is at it's peak, time for indoor work, such as pies, sauces, jams, mustard's, etc.
Wintergreen is also preparing for the H.A.V.E. and Health Services Fundraiser. Haliburton Highlands Food and Beverage Showcase on Sat. June 20th from noon to 5 p.m. Pay a $20.00 entrance fee and feast all afternoon on the "tastes of Haliburton Country" BBQ, Bakery, Soups, Wild Game, Coffee, Ice Cream, Thai Food...just to name a few. Contact Diane Dawson 286-3202 to reserve your space. Silent Auction, live music all day, and many give away prizes, plus a grab bag full of goodies on entry. Support these most important causes....water and good health!!!
