We were able to do our first tap on Monday as the weather allowed us to get into the sugar bush.
Day 2 we spent the day cleaning out the storage tanks. The sap has started to drip into the storage tanks. Drip....drip....drip. It's going to take millions of drips to get started boiling. The weather is looking good this week and we are excited. We've had some repairs to do as well from fallen trees on the lines. Ryan has been busy tapping the lower end on the 120 acres.
Day 3 in the sugar bush at Wintergreen starts early! We have to be in the bush by 7am and snow conditions are good until around 11:30am and then the snow is too sticky to maneuver in the bush. We have about 1/3 tapped in. The rest of our day was spent putting the evaporator back together....levels, dials and thermometers
Day 4 of tapping and the bush is 3/4 tapped and we will be finishing on Friday. Sap is not running today as it is too cold. It will be quite a few days before we boil. All the storage tanks need to be full to get started so we won't be boiling this weekend.
Wintergreen is open this weekend for food all day Saturday and Sunday 9am-4pm. If you would like a tour during the week (without food) just give us a call.
